As you may know im a dog walker, i run my own business and i love what i do! Before i was a dog walker i worked in pharmacy as a dispenseing assistant (basically assembling the prescriptions for the pharmacist to check, ordering stock etc, the girls you see running around doing a million things at once!) i actually really enjoyed this and worked full time for 8 years, but i got tired and needed a wee change. Dog walking was something id looked into before i found my dispensing job so it felt right to try this. i was lucky enough to work for a large company (rhymes with hoots…) who transferred me to a store with late nights, 18months of dog walking 9-4.30 and pharmacy from 5.45-9.15 and i was wrecked! i had managed to grow my business though and in october i was able to leave boots! i had free time, i joined a gym, was getting excited about running and swimming! my fitness was finally taking a front seat to my life and i was excited to see how much progress i could make.
Enter Covid-19. i lost around 2/3rds of business (people who werent key workers now furloughed at home with their dogs…) so i asked for some hours back in the pharmacy to keep me going, being the wee stars they are (and because some people needed furloughed due to health) i got a few night shifts back. 3 months later and i just agreed to stay on until the end of august (yay money!).
Today however, was the first day i had a full day of walks, 28,000 steps and a shift in the pharmacy later and my knees, feet, quads, hamstrings etc are all aching. i honestly dont know how i managed to work for so long in the pharmacy originally! But i have a clear end date in sight, im down to 2 shifts a week, the gyms will be opening soon and i am feeling optimistic about my weight loss journey. i refuse to push myself to the point that i hate everything about exercise, i got pulled about today by some of the dogs and my legs are tired so i wont guilt myself into doing late night exercise, ive done enough! i will however vow to do some stair push ups in the morning before my first walk to see where abouts im at. im hoping to start 4 steps up, 3 sets of 10 and once thats comfortable move down a step etc until i can do 10 proper push ups!
Small manageable goals means i can celebrate small victories! Todays victory was getting a full days dog walking done, hopefully tomorrows will be some push ups
